I began this painting of the pond at Codrington College in St. John, Barbados. It is a seminary and a beautiful and very peaceful location.
I began with an orange under painting as I often like the look of contrasting bits of colour popping through the finished piece.
When I finished painting the sky, to my frustration, all the orange had been lost!
I repainted the sky orange to be able to achieve my goal. Along the way, I changed my plans - and time of day - creating a sunset picture instead of the daylight one.
This has now become a fictional piece.....for while the scene is real, the lighting will never look this way, as this is on the East Coast of Barbados!
